Daisy, the Trickster!

Daisy is now 6 months and 5 days old. To me, she is at the peak of her intelligence. Just last night she conquered the 5 most wanted things I wanted her to learn. Sit, Down, Up, Shake and Playing Dead. YES, Playing Dead! Who said beagles are hard dogs to train? Yes, they might have a short attention span, but like my Complete Idiot's Guide To Beagles says, you must have patience when training a beagle. Like I mentioned in one of my other journal entries, Daisy learned to sit almost instantly. That one was easy. Shake and Playing Dead was a little tougher. These two tricks took well over a month for her to understand. Daisy will do almost anything for her Treats though.

So that's 5 down, and hopefully lots more to go! I heard that teaching a dog to Stay is pretty hard. With Daisy, I have a feeling that might be a little tough. We'll give it a shot and see what happens. One thing for me to remember is to have patience and to keep her training sessions no longer than 15 minutes. Oh yeah, and make sure your puppy is having fun with it. Don't yell or scream if you dog doesn't cooperate right away. My motto is "A happy puppy is a smart puppy!"
